Ferrari drops tobacco branding from name

05 Mar 2019. Formula One team Ferrari has removed the controversial Philip Morris tobacco branding from its official name for the Australian Grand Prix, The Age reported.

The team's official race entry for the upcoming race at Albert Park had been listed as "Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow". This was recently changed back to just "Scuderia Ferrari", according to the report. The Mission Winnow brand was first introduced at the Japanese Grand Prix in October 2018 and sparked an investigation by the federal and Victorian health departments and the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

Since 2007, strict bans on tobacco advertising in Formula One have been in place worldwide, but last October Philip Morris returned to the sport with its scientific research subsidiary and branded Ferrari cars with its "Mission Winnow" logo. Similarly, British American Tobacco has teamed up this year with Formula One team McLaren through its "A Better Tomorrow" agenda, the report said.
